Dodge County Making Progress in Storm Cleanup

Areas impacted by Tuesday’s storm are working to return to normal. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says there was a lot of damage near Brownsville, and “right now we still have Highway 49 shut down from Brownsville to
Highway 175 because of a transmission line that was damaged last night in the
storms and it’s probably going to be most of the day before they can get that
resolved and fixed. So people going through that area of Highway 49 we ask to
use an alternate route.”

Schmidt says progress is already looking good – and the citizens are resilient, “like any other storm, it’s not the first storm we’ve been through. Just got to pick up the pieces – get the trees out of there and the power back on and life will continue.”

At least one confirmed tornado hit the ground in our listening area Tuesdsay night. Schmidt adds that it’s taking time to fully restore power because “we can’t clear the trees until the power lines are removed and that was the biggest hurdle going through the night – was just getting those power lines up and making sure that it was safe to remove some of the debris from the road. For the most part it’s cleaning up quite nicely and certainly some areas still need some work. Brownsville and Waupun have a number of trees they’ve got to clean up.”
