Dodge County Man Sentenced to Prison for Reckless Homicide

A Dodge County man was
sentenced Wednesday in Dodge County Court following a jury verdict that found
him guilty of first degree reckless homicide and felony bail jumping. Jason L.
Thompson was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by seven years of
extended supervision for the homicide and a concurrent two years in prison and
three years of supervision on the bail jumping charge. The State had recommended
a sentence of 10 years of prison time, followed by five years of extended
supervision.

Thompson allegedly sold
a fatal dose of heroin to James Hook in 2016. Investigators say Thompson drove
to Madison to pick up the drugs and delivered them to Hook. Judge Steven Bauer said
during sentencing that Thompson had lied on the stand during his trial, also
saying that of all the ways a person can commit reckless homicide, this is the
most mitigated. Bauer said the court needed to “balance the crime, not the
charge”.
