DOT Updates Northeast Region Construction Projects

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region provides a weekly construction update for all WisDOT Northeast Region state highway projects currently under construction. It details construction activities, schedules and traffic impacts for a two-week period. Active construction projects are listed by County below.

The NE Region consists of 11 counties: Brown, Calumet, Door, Fond du Lac, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Oconto, Outagamie, Sheboygan, and Winnebago. Below is a list of public resources available for construction, work zone and traffic impact information.

BROWN COUNTY

WIS 29/County VV Interchange

Location/limits: WIS 29/County VV interchange, WIS 29/County U interchange, and various side roads in the villages of Hobart/Howard and the Oneida Nation Reservation.

Length: 1.3 miles

Schedule: May 3, 2021 to late fall 2022

Cost: $19.8 million

Description of work: Construction of a grade-separated interchange at the intersection of WIS 29/County VV, including the connection and/or realignment of local roadways. After the completion of the interchange at WIS 29/County VV, the intersection of WIS 29/County U will be closed.

June 13 to June 17:  Excavation along ramp tie-ins and associated aggregate placement will be completed along WIS 29. Excavation for the County VV pond will generate borrow for the remaining fills. Aggregates will be installed along section of the new County TS alignment. Continued storm sewer installation on the project were available. Conduit and fiber optic installation along Marley St., County FF, Cormier Road and restoration for the broadband expansion continues. The contractor will continue dewatering at County VV pond and Evergreen pond. Evergreen pond plantings will be installed once the water line is below the safety shelf. The bridge contractor will finish the bridge work on the County VV new structure over WIS 29.

June 20 to June 24:  The contractor will install remaining select crush, borrow and select borrow north of County TS/County VV roundabout. County VV and Evergreen Pond dewatering will continue as well as the County TS rock crib installation. County VV pond liner will be installed. Conduit and fiber optic installation along Marley St. will finalize the broadband expansion portion of the project. Electrical work on the County TS/VV roundabout will begin. Bridge work will continue similar to the previous week. Excavation along ramp tie-ins and associated aggregate placement will be completed along WIS 29. Storm sewer will continue along County TS and County VV/TS roundabout. Continued storm sewer installation at various project locations where available. Concrete base trimming and paving for the north ramp tie in areas will occur late in the week. Concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter will be installed along County TS. Restoration for areas will be completed as available.

Traffic impacts: WIS 29 lane closures can be expected during off-peak hours during the project.

  • The western median U-turn of the WIS 29/County VV RCUT is closed and detoured.
    • Traffic to proceed westbound to the WIS 32 on/off ramps and use the WIS 29/WIS 32 ramps to turn around and access eastbound WIS 29.
  • County VV between County U and North Overland Road is CLOSED to mid-August 2022.
  • Local roadways will be closed and/or detoured during various times throughout construction. Please see project website.

Detour:

  • County VV: Traffic to proceed westbound along WIS 29 to County U and eastbound along WIS 29 to County U.
  • RCUT closure: Westbound WIS 29 to WIS 32 on/off-ramps to eastbound WIS 29.

WIS 57 and County K Intersection Reconstruction

Location/limits: WIS 57 and County K intersection in the town of Scott

Length: .73 miles

Schedule: May 2, 2022 to late August 2022

Cost: $2.0 million

Description of work: Reconstruct the intersection to a ‘restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT)’. This removes cross traffic (full left turn) from side road. Other work includes grading, based, concrete pavement, hot mix asphalt, curb and gutter, fence, lighting, and incidentals.

June 13 to June 17: The contractor will place shoulder aggregate along the new paved asphalt shoulder followed by constructing the concrete pathway through the old intersection crossover. Traffic is planned to switch to stage two on Wednesday, June 15. The outside lanes of northbound and southbound WIS 57 will be closed along with County K and Bay Settlement Road. Removal work will begin at County K and Bay Settlement Road.

June 20 to June 24: Contractor will begin removing material and grading the northbound outside edge of WIS 57 to install a new turn lane. The contractor will begin placing erosion control on the outside edges of WIS 57 and restore the median area of WIS 57.

Traffic impacts: WIS 57 will have lane closures except during peak weekend hours. The project will be built in two stages to minimize traffic impacts.

Stage 1 (Finished)

  • WIS 57 will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction during the week using flagging operations.
    • Both lanes of WIS 57 will be open on the weekend.
  • No left turn or through movements will be allowed to County K and Bay Settlement Road.

Stage 2 (Current)

  • WIS 57 will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction during the week using flagging operations.
    • Both lanes of WIS 57 will be open on the weekends.
  • Count K will be closed.
    • Access will be maintained to local traffic. Local traffic will only have access to County K from the east.
  • Right turn movements will not be allowed from northbound WIS 57 through the work zone to County K.
  • Bay Settlement Road will be closed.
    • Access will be maintained to local traffic.
    • Right turn movements will not be allowed from southbound WIS 57 through the work zone to Bay Settlement Road.
  • No left or through movements will be allowed from County K and Bay Settlement Road.

Detour: No detour will be posted for local road closures.

WIS 32 Resurfacing

Location/limits: WIS 32/57 from south County line in the town of Holland to Duester Street in the town of Wrightstown

Length: 6.6 miles

Cost: $3,434,432.65

Description of work: Mill and overlay of WIS 32/57, including culvert and curb ramp replacements, beam guard upgrades, a box culvert extension, reconstruct/realignment of Man Cal Road intersection, centerline rumble strips and pavement markings.

June 13 to June 17:  Contractor will continue paving operations along WIS 32.

June 20 to June 24:  Contractor will continue paving operations on WIS 32 and expects to finish paving this week. Work at the WIS 32/57/96 roundabout in Greenleaf begins this week. Milling and paving operations within the roundabout will close the roundabout to traffic on Thursday and Friday. Centerline rumble strip installation along WIS 32 may begin this week.

Traffic impacts: WIS 32 will remain open to traffic under flagging operations and periodic shoulder closures except for a closure of the roundabout during work in the roundabout.

  • WIS 32/WIS 96 roundabout in Greenleaf will be closed June 23 and 24 to complete paving through the roundabout.
  • Local access will be maintained from either one direction or the other.

Man Cal Road will be closed for about four weeks during reconstruction of the intersection. The road will reopen to a gravel surface prior to asphalt paving.

  • Access to properties and the Fox River Trail will be maintained during the reconstruction process.

Detour: WIS 32/57 Detour: Motorists will be directed to use County Z to County PP back to WIS 32/57 in De Pere. WIS 96 Detour: Motorists will be directed to use County D to County Z to County PP. Please see project website for detailed detour maps.

BROWN AND MANITOWOC COUNTY

I-43 Resurfacing, Ramp and Bridge Work

Location/limits: I-43 from WIS 310 in Manitowoc County to WIS 96 in Brown County, including all interchanges in the project work zone, and the bridge deck on WIS 96 over I-43 in the village of Denmark

Length: 15.5 miles

Cost: $24 million

Schedule: March 7, 2022 to November 2022

Description of work: Construction includes a bridge deck overlay on WIS 96 over I-43, bridge repair on Rockwood road over I-43, concrete repairs of existing I-43, milling of existing asphalt and paving in new asphalt, removal and replacement of existing wire woven fence, planting of living snow fence and pavement marking.

June 13 to June 17: Asphalt milling and paving continued on I-43. Crews continued placing new posts and right-of-way fencing along northbound I-43.

June 20 to June 24: Asphalt milling and paving will continue on I-43 in both directions. Crews will continue placing new posts and right-of-way fencing along northbound I-43. Guardrail work will begin on several overpasses over I-43 within the project limits. This work will close several overpasses.

Traffic impacts: I-43 mainline single lane closures in northbound and southbound directions will take place at various locations in the project limits.

  • Overpasses on I-43 at the following locations will be CLOSED to traffic from Monday, June 20, 2022 to late June 2022. Expected finishing time is four weeks.
    • CLOSED I-43 overpasses: Reifs Mills Road, Polifka Road, Fisherville Road, Greenstreet Road, Hidden Valley Road, Zander Road, and Cooperstown Road.
    • The local, low-traffic roadways will not have detours posted.
    • Emergency vehicles will be able to cross the overpasses.

CALUMET COUNTY

WIS 114/55 Resurfacing

Location/limits: US 10 to the south junction of WIS 114/55 in the villages of Harrison and Sherwood

Length: 5.1 miles

Schedule: June 13, 2022 through September 2022

Cost: $4 million

Description of work: The project involves asphaltic surface milling, rubbilizing, grading, base aggregate placement, asphaltic paving, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, pavement marking. Geometric roadway improvements at the State Park Road, Pigeon Road, and Castle Drive intersections with WIS 114.

June 13 to June 17: Project began. The contractor began sawcutting and replacing sections of curb and gutter and sidewalk in the village of Sherwood. The contractor also began constructing the turn lanes at Castle Drive on WIS 114. Castle Drive will remain closed while this work is being completed.

June 20 to June 24: Railroad replacement begins. The contractor will close WIS 114/WIS 55 at the Canadian National railroad to replace the crossing. The contractor will also continue replacing sections of curb and gutter and sidewalk in the village of Sherwood and adding the turn lane at Castle Drive.

Traffic impacts: WIS 114/55 will remain open during construction with the following traffic impacts. Please see the project website for the latest anticipated closure dates.

  • (Current) Flagging operations on WIS 114/55 allowed between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • (Begins June 20, 2022) WIS 114/55 will be CLOSED and detoured for one to two-weeks from the village of Sherwood to the WIS 55/114/Stommel Road roundabout for railroad work just south of the roundabout.
    • Traffic will not be able to cross railroad tracks.
    • Local access will be maintained from either one direction or the other.
  • (future) WIS 114/55/Stommel Road roundabout full closure scheduled for after July 4th.
  • (future) WIS 114 closure from US 10 to WIS 55 scheduled for mid-July through mid-August.
  • (future) WIS 114 and WIS 55 closed through Sherwood currently scheduled for mid-August.

DOOR COUNTY

WIS 42 Resurfacing

Location/limits: South junction of WIS 57 to Bayview Bridge in the town of Nasewaupee and city of Sturgeon Bay

Length: 7.2 miles

Schedule: March 30, 2022 through September 2022

Cost: $7.5 million

Description of work: The project involves asphaltic surface milling, asphaltic paving, excavation, base aggregate placement, concrete pavement, diamond grinding concrete pavement, spot storm sewer improvements, guardrail, pavement marking, and various incidental items. Construction also includes locally funded improvements to intersections at Ashland and Neenah Avenue, County U/Circle Ridge Road and the Green Bay northbound ramp.

June 13 to June 17: The contractor continued concrete repair south of Ashland Avenue in both the northbound and southbound lanes. Crews completed asphalt paving and base aggregate placement north of Ashland Avenue. Pavement marking continued north of Ashland Avenue as well. Beam guard was replaced near the Green Bay road ramps.

June 20 to June 24: The contractor will complete concrete repair on mainline portions of WIS 42/57. Crews will complete pavement marking north of Ashland Avenue. Restoration will be completed north of Ashland Avenue.

Traffic impacts:

  • WIS 42 will be CLOSED and detoured beginning June 27, 2022 south of the intersection with WIS 57. The closure is expected to last one to two-weeks.
  • Weekly single lane closures will be in place from WIS 57 south junction to the Bayview Bridge in both the northbound and southbound lanes.

Detour: WIS 42 to County H to County S and back to WIS 42/57

FOND DU LAC COUNTY

West Johnson Street, City of Fond Du Lac (WIS 23/Pioneer Road Intersection)

Location/limits: WIS 23 and County VV intersection, city of Fond du Lac

Length: 0.12 miles

Cost: $1.12 million

Schedule: June 6, 2022, to August 9, 2022

Description of work: This work is to provide WIS 23 at the County VV intersection with dedicated left turn lanes for both eastbound and westbound traffic on WIS 23, along with a dedicated right turn lane for westbound WIS 23 onto County VV. This work will also upgrade the traffic signals at the intersection.

June 13 to June 17: The contractor worked on the following items:

  • Grading operations along the north side of the intersection.
  • Prepping for sidewalk from County VV to the east construction limits along the north side of WIS 23.

June 20 to June 24: The contractor anticipates working on the following items:

  • Installing conduit throughout the intersection for future traffic signals.
  • Pouring concrete curb and gutter in the median of WIS 23.

Traffic impacts: WIS 23 will remain open to two lanes in each direction. Closures of note below. Please see project website for detailed traffic impacts and maps.

  • County VV north at WIS 23 – Closed

The following turning restrictions will remain in place.

  • Westbound WIS 23 to southbound County VV
  • Eastbound WIS 23 to northbound County VV

WIS 23 Expansion – Urban Section

Location/limits: WIS 23 and various intersecting local roads between US 151 and Seven Hills Road

Length: 5.59 miles

Cost: $35 million

Schedule: April 19, 2021 to December 2022

Description of work: This work is part of the WIS 23 4-lane, on-alignment expansion project scheduled for 2019-2022 in Sheboygan and Fond du Lac counties. This west section of the overall project includes the complete construction of additional lanes. Work involves grading, drainage culverts and inlets, aggregate base, concrete pavement, and other incidentals items of work. This project includes construction of a roundabout at WIS 23 and Wisconsin American Drive, a jug handle interchange with roundabouts at WIS 23 and County K including two WIS 23 bridges over County K. At WIS 23 and County UU, a diamond interchange with roundabouts including a bridge over WIS 23 will be constructed. Northbound and southbound ramp widening and new retaining wall at USH 151 and WIS 23 interchange.

June 13 to June 17: The contractor worked on the following items:

  • Continue grading and placing gravel along WIS 23 westbound.
  • Continue installing storm sewer on WIS 23 westbound.
  • Continue paving operations on WIS 23 westbound near County UU.
  • Complete gravel and asphalt placement on the new Hilltop Connector once the grade dries out.
  • Continue construction of the new WIS 23 westbound bridge over County K.

June 20 to June 24: The contractor anticipates working on the following items:

  • Continue paving operations on WIS 23 westbound near County UU.
  • Continue construction of the new WIS 23 westbound bridge over County K.

Traffic impacts: WIS 23 will generally remain open to one lane in each direction. Closures of note below. Please see project website for detailed traffic impacts and maps.

  • County K north at WIS 23 – Closed
  • County UU (South of WIS 23) – Closed
  • County UU (North of WIS 23) – Closed

FOND DU LAC AND SHEBOYGAN COUNTY

WIS 23 Resurfacing

Location/limits: WIS 23 from Seven Hills Road in Fond du Lac County to County P in Sheboygan County.

Length: 14 miles

Cost: $4.1 million

Schedule: May 9, 2022 through July 2022

Description of work: The project involves milling and resurfacing the original WIS 23 lanes not reconstructed as part of the lane expansion work in 2019-2021, including rumble strips and pavement marking.

June 13 to June 17: The contractor completed all asphalt paving by finishing the outside lanes, shoulders, and right turn lanes throughout the project.

June 20 to June 24:  Work will begin on base aggregate shoulders and permanent pavement marking in various locations throughout the project.

Traffic impacts: Eastbound and westbound WIS 23 will be reduced to one lane at various locations in the project limits.

KEWAUNEE COUNTY

WIS 29 Resurfacing

Location/limits: West County Line to County C in the towns of Montpelier and West Kewaunee, Kewaunee County.

Length: 11.7 miles

Schedule: April 15, 2022 through June 17, 2022

Cost: $3.94 Million

Description of work: Work will include milling and resurfacing of the existing asphaltic lanes and shoulders, widening paved shoulders from 3’ to 5’, installing centerline and shoulder rumble strips, adding gravel to existing shoulders, replacing culvert pipes, upgrading guardrail, permanent signing, and pavement marking.

June 13 to June 17: Centerline and edge line pavement marking, roadway side slope grading, culvert pipe cleaning and permanent signing work was completed this week. The project is substantially complete.

June 20 to June 24: Roadway finishing work including gravel shoulder slope repairs. Traffic control device removal will be completed this week.

Traffic impacts: WIS 29 will remain open to traffic throughout construction with flagging operations.

MANITOWOC COUNTY

WIS 32/57 Resurfacing 

Location/limits: WIS 32/57 from WIS 67 to the WIS 32/57 split within the city of Kiel

Length: 4 miles

Schedule: April 11, 2022, to mid-June 2022

Cost: $3.1 million

Description of work: Asphaltic surface milling, concrete base patching, base aggregate dense, hot mix asphalt pavement, shoulder rumble strips, culvert pipe, beamguard, and pavement marking.

June 13 to June 17: The contractor worked on finishing beamguard installation. They placed pavement marking and electrical on the project.

June 20 to June 24: The contractor will finish culvert lining and punchlist items.

Traffic Impacts: The northbound and southbound lanes of WIS 32/57 are reduce to one lane in each direction.

OCONTO COUNTY

WIS 32 Resurfacing (Suring) and Bridge Deck Replacement

Location/limits: WIS 32 resurfacing work zone from Trinity Church Road through the village of Suring to County AA in the town of Breed. Bridge deck replacement at the WIS 32 bridge over south branch of Oconto River north of County M in Suring (complete).

Length: 10.2 miles

Schedule: April 11, 2022, to mid-September 2022

Cost: $7.8 million

Description of work: Project consists of replacing the deck of the South Branch Oconto River bridge, extending and replacing drainage structures, replacing guardrail, storm sewer, and curb ramp replacements in the village of Suring, milling and overlaying the existing pavement with new asphaltic pavement, installing rumble strips, and applying new pavement marking.

June 13 to June 17: Crews installed guardrail at the South Branch Oconto River bridge. Grading crews completed shaping slopes and ditches at the bridge. The pipe contractor completed culvert replacements between Trinity Church Road and Peshtigo Brook Road. Landscaping crews completed restoration of newly placed culverts. The paving contractor patched culvert pipe replacement locations.

June 20 to June 24: Grading crews will complete subgrade repair between River Road and Clay Road. The pipe contractor will begin storm sewer repair and installation in Suring. Concrete crews will be onsite to begin replacing curb and gutter and sidewalk in Suring. The paving contractor will begin milling existing asphaltic pavement between Hill Road and County AA. Paving crews will follow behind milling operations placing the lower layer of new asphaltic pavement.

Traffic impacts: WIS 32 will be closed and detoured for grading and storm sewer work between Peshtigo Brook Road and County Road M beginning Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24.

  • Access to the work zone will be maintained for local traffic.
  • WIS 32 between Peshtigo Brook Road and County M will be open by the end of the work week on June 24.

The WIS 32 bridge north of Suring opened on June 17.

WIS 32 from Hill Road to County AA will remain open to traffic during paving work with flagging operations.

Detour: Through traffic will be directed to use County H, County R, and County M.

Detour: Through traffic will be directed to use County M, WIS 55, and WIS 64.

OUTAGAMIE COUNTY

WIS 55/County JJ roundabout and WIS 55 resurfacing

Location/limits: WIS 55 from just north of I-41 in the city of Kaukauna to WIS 54 in the town of Oneida.

Length of project: 14 miles

Schedule: April 18, 2022 through September 2022

Cost: $12.1 million

Description of work: Work includes milling and resurfacing of WIS 55 in the project limits and construction of a new intersection (roundabout) at the WIS 55/County JJ intersection. Construction also includes common excavation, base aggregate dense, select crushed material, cold-in-place recycled asphalt (CIR), hot mix asphalt pavement, box culvert extension, culvert replacements, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, curb ramp upgrades, storm sewer, guardrail, signing, pavement marking, lighting, and incidental items. Curb ramp upgrades will take place in the town of Freedom at County E and County S.

June 13 to June 17: Guardrail removal, grading, and installation crews continued work along WIS 55. Crews continued installing curb and gutter and sidewalk at the County JJ and WIS 55 roundabout. The box culvert extension work over Moses Creek continued. Island and curb ramp replacements on the east side of the County E and WIS 55 intersection were completed. Crews began milling WIS 55 mainline south of Freedom.

June 20 to June 24: Crews will continue milling operations on mainline WIS 55 south of Freedom. Cold-in-place recycled asphalt (CIR) operations will begin on mainline WIS 55 south of Freedom. Curb ramp replacements in the intersection quadrants of County S and WIS 55 will begin. Light pole base and pull box installation will take place at the County JJ and WIS 55 intersection. Crews will continue with sidewalk construction at the County JJ and WIS 55 roundabout. The box culvert extension work over Moses Creek will continue.

Traffic Impacts: County JJ and WIS 55 intersection will be CLOSED April 25 through early August 2022. WIS 55 will remain open with flagging during culvert replacement and resurfacing operations. Please see the project website for more information.

  • County E from WIS 55 to County S will be CLOSED June 13 through June 17.

Detours:

  • WIS 55 detour will follow I-41 to County N to County UU.
  • County JJ will be detoured by Outagamie County in conjunction with a separate County project that will reconstruct County JJ from just east of County N to the WIS 55 project’s west limits.
  • County E detour will follow WIS 55 to County S.
  • Detour for eastbound County S to southbound WIS 55 right turn will follow County J to County UU

WIS 15 Bypass Reconstruction/Expansion

Location/limits: WIS 15 from CN Railroad to County JJ in the towns of Hortonia and Ellington and the village of Hortonville

Length of project: 3.6 miles

Schedule: June 2021 through October 2022

Cost: $24.7 million(initial contract)

Description of work: This work is part of the WIS 15 4-lane, off-alignment expansion project scheduled for 2021-2024 in Outagamie County. This initial contract (one of five) will complete the bypass portion. Work involves grading, base, landfill waste removal, culvert pipe, storm sewer, asphalt pavement, concrete curb and gutter, pavement marking, finishing, landscaping, bridge/drainage structures, retaining walls and incidental items. Construction of eastbound and westbound bridges over Wis. Central Railroad, Black Otter Creek, County M and Nash Street. Retaining walls along the east side of the Wis. Central railroad at the abutments and under and along the east and west abutments at County M and Nash Street. Grading of the new roadway alignment and placing of select crushed and base aggregate material to the roadway elevations for the future paving contract. Erosion control as needed. County M bridge piling began on the west side of the roadway.

June 13 to June 17: Crews continued to work on the railroad bridges piers, marsh excavation and backfilling. Grading crews worked on excavation and placing embankment near the east end of the project west of County JJ and west of Black Otter Creek. Restoration crews continued to restore available areas.

June 20 to June 24: Crews will continue to work on the railroad bridges piers. Grading crews will continue to work on marsh excavation and backfilling. Retaining wall crew is expected to complete the retaining wall along the east side of the railroad at Givens Road. Grading crews are schedule to work on excavation and placing embankment near the east end of the project west of County JJ and west of Black Otter Creek. Restoration crews will be onsite to restore available areas.

Traffic Impacts: Most work on the bypass where the roadway does not conflict with existing roadways will be completed in stage one. No impacts to traffic are expected at this time.

WIS 15 East Segment Reconstruction and Expansion

Location/limits: WIS 15 from County JJ in the village of Hortonville to Lily of the Valley Dr. in the village of Greenville

Length: 3.6 miles

Cost: $20.8 million

Schedule: April 1, 2022 to November 2023

Description of work: This work is part of the WIS 15 4-lane expansion project scheduled for 2022-2023 in Outagamie County. This contract will complete the east segment. Work involves grading, base, culvert pipe, storm sewer, asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, concrete curb and gutter, pavement marking, finishing, landscaping, large drainage structures, and incidental items.

June 13 to June 17: Marsh excavation will continue working to the east. Stripping of topsoil will continue working from the railroad crossing to the west. Crew will start to construct the fill in these areas. They will then start stripping topsoil on Old WIS 15 East behind All World Ford. Once stripped the excavated material will be hauled to the east to construct the road grade from County Road JJ to Lilly of the Valley Road.

June 20 to June 24: Marsh excavation will continue, stripping topsoil for this construction stage will be completed and crews will start to construct the roadway grade working from west to the east. Preparation for the construction of the box culvert located just east of the railroad crossing will begin. Cross drain culvert installation is scheduled to start late next week.

Traffic Impacts: WIS 15 will remain open on existing pavement using various shoulder closures and flagging operations.

  • Westbound median lane of WIS 15 is closed between Lily of the Valley and Hyacinth.
  • Flagging operations will begin between Manley Road and the railroad crossing to allow off-road trucks to cross WIS 15 and/or the railroad crossing. This is anticipated to start the week of June 27, but is weather dependent.
  • Construction vehicles will be entering and leaving the work zone from the current lanes of WIS 15. Drivers are asked to use caution when travelling through the project.

WINNEBAGO COUNTY

US 10 Pavement Patching

Location/limits: US 10 from West County Line to Cold Spring Road

Length: 16 miles

Schedule: June 13, 2022 to October 28, 2022

Cost: $7,143,857.71

Description of work: Concrete pavement patching of US 10 with concrete approach slab replacement, asphalt shoulder resurfacing, route and sealing, beam guard adjustments, pavement markings and rumble strips.

June 13 to June 17:  Project begins. The project will start with concrete pavement patching operations along the outside lanes of US 10.

June 20 to June 24:  Concrete pavement patching operations along the outside lanes of US 10.

Traffic impacts: US 10 will remain open during construction using single lane closures. US 10 will be reduced to one lane during the week. All lanes will be open on the weekends to accommodate weekend travel. 

Racine Street Bridge Replacement

Location/limits: Fox River Bridge and approaches, city of Menasha

Length: On-bridge

Cost: $33 million

Schedule: October 13, 2020 to November 2022

Description of work: Work includes replacing the existing bridge with a new, two-lane drawbridge (movable span) on a slightly different alignment (just east of existing location). It also includes new roundabouts at the Racine Street intersections with Main Street on the north side of the river and Ahnaip Street on the south side of the river. Work will be completed in three stages. Stage 1 takes place from October 2020 to fall 2021.

June 13 to June 17: Crew are continuing with removals and storm sewer installation for the roadway and continuing to place structural steel for the bridge.

Traffic impacts: Bridge CLOSED through September 2022. In late May/early June 2022, construction of the Racine Street roundabouts at Main Street and Ahnaip Street will begin. Prior to construction, the city of Menasha is conducting utility work and closed the Racine Street and Main Street intersection. There will also be some traffic impacts near the Ahnaip Street intersection while the city of Menasha completes utility work in that area.

Detour: 3rd Street (WIS 114) to Tayco Street to Nicolet Blvd to Ahnaip Street
