Downtown Exploratory Committee Gives Final Report To The FDL City Council

Nearly a year in the making the Fond du Lac City Council Wednesday night heard members of the Downtown Exploratory Committee summarize their suggestions for improving the downtown. Committee Chairman Sam Meyer says they had four goals which included targeting redevelopment of priority or opportunity properties, supporting new residential development, further investing in the Arts and Entertainment District, and improving landscaping and streetscaping amenities. After hearing the report Council President Lee Ann Lorrigan suggested developing a 5 year strategic plan and getting together with members of the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership to pick a strategic team. All told there were over 40 suggestions ranging from having a brew pub facility or winery Downtown, to having a large indoor market, to a walking bridge that connects the Downtown to Hamilton Park. Asked his opinion Meyer said it is important to develop residential opportunities Downtown.
