Drive Sober Drunken Driving Arrests Trending Upward

The Highway Safety Coordinator for Fond du Lac County is disappointed with the number of people that were arrested for impaired driving during the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign. Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt says the goal behind promoting the campaign before hand and during the effort is to try and keep drunken drivers off the road. Eight local police departments participated. Still 31 drivers were arrested for driving impaired and there were other violations as well. Those violations included 31 safety belt violations, 112 speeding violations, 39 operating after revocation or suspension violations, and 313 other traffic citations. During the Drive Sober effort for the 2015 holiday season 9 people were arrested for drunken driving, during the 2016 season that number was 16.
