Drive Sober Enforcement Effort Underway

The nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement effort gets underway today. It runs through January 1st. In Fond du Lac County the Sheriff’s Department and Police Departments in Fond du Lac, Oakfield, North Fond du Lac, Rosendale, Brandon, Waupun, Campbellsport, and the Town of Ripon are participating. Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt notes it is an effort to make people consider an alternative to drinking and driving. Waldschmidt says there are safe driver programs at some taverns, designated drivers and other ways to get home if you drink too much. In Fond du Lac there are Uber and Lyft drivers, a taxicab service and there are always friends and family members that may pick you up. Waldschmidt says it is disappointing the number of drunken drivers they see on the roads during the holidays despite the efforts they make to warn people about the “Drive Sober” campaign.
