Driver Convicted In Fatal I-41 Accident

The accident back in June of 2016 claimed the life of David Button and his son, Joseph. Now, a jury has convicted the driver in that accident, Travis Wollersheim, on 2 counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.

David and Joseph Button were in a car that was stopped in a traffic jam on I-41 near the Johnson St off-ramp on June 22, 2016. Wollersheim plowed into the back of the Button vehicle, pushing them into the back of a semi. Wollersheim had said at the time he was checking mirrors for a lane change and didn’t see the car ahead of him stopping.

The investigation showed no sign of drugs or alcohol in Wollersheim’s system. It also showed he was not using his phone. He will spend a year in jail and 3 months on probation. The charges could have carried up to 20 years in prison.
