Driver Safe After Car Breaks Through Ice On Lake Winnebago

The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office is reminding outdoor winter enthusiasts that the ice on Lake Winnebago is not safe. The reminder comes after a vehicle went through the ice Monday morning about a 1.3 miles from shore south of Brothertown. The male driver of the vehicle was able to crawl out the back tailgate. A number of people on the ice at the time were able to help him exit the vehicle and assisted him to shore. In a post on the Calumet County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, it was noted “the ice is never 100% safe! Please use caution and exercise good judgement when going on the ice.”
