Drone Equipment Assists In Sunday Arrest

An early Sunday morning foot chase ends with one person being arrested. FDL County Sherriff’s Deptuies were responding to a request at 7:30 a.m. for a welfare check call involving a female being followed by a male on Hwy. 23 near Hwy. 151.

A Deputy located the two individuals and was in the process of gathering information when the male subject took off running. A short foot pursuit ensued but the Deputy lost sight of the suspect near the intersection of Mary Hill Park Dr.

Deputies did learn the male had a warrant out for his arrest on Domestic-related charges. With help from the FDL PD K-9 unit and tips from witnesses, the suspect was located on the Prairie Trail near 4th St. Rd., but he again took off on foot.

With the use of drone equipment, the man was spotted walking in a creek behind the First Presbyterian Church on 4th St. Rd., which was where he was apprehended and taken into custody just before 10:30 a.m. He is being held in the FDL County Jail on the initial arrest warrant along with new charges of resisting/obstruction and several counts of Misdemeanor and Felony Bail Jumping.

The suspect did suffer minor injuries as a result of the attempt to flee authorities through the heavily wooded terrain.
