Drug Free Communities of FDL County Raising Awareness for Prescription Drug Drop Boxes This Month

Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County is using the month of October to encourage people to properly dispose of unused or unwanted prescription drugs.

Alex Berg with Drug Free Communities tells KFIZ News they are planning a two-week campaign this month to raise awareness for the 13 drug drop boxes located across the county, and that they’re hoping everyone will take the time to check their home for unused or unwanted medication.

“Especially now, when everyone is at home it’s really important that you are monitoring your medications, and even your alcohol, in your house and locking up your medications so they’re not going to be stolen – they’re not going to be misused by kids or by visitors that you have in your home,” Berg said. “Because we know that most times, when youth are misusing prescription medications, they’re getting it from home, or their medicine cabinets, or their parents or their peers.”

The awareness campaign begins October 12th, and will lead in to “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day” on October 24th. To see a map of the drug drop boxes in Fond du Lac County, click here.
