Duplex Fire On West Second Street

For the second time in as many days Fond du Lac firefighters start out their day with a house fire. This morning shortly after 3 a.m., firefighters were dispatched for a fire at a duplex in the 300 block of West 2nd Street (307 West 2nd). Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says the duplex wasn’t occupied. The new owner just took over possession in the past few days. He says there was extensive damage to the interior of the duplex. No one was injured and he says there was a fair amount of structural damage. Alliant Energy shut off power to about 5 or 6 adjacent homes. Chief O’Leary says they kept the fire from spreading to other homes on the block. He says they are trying to determine the cause of the fire. He says they had about 25 firefighters working the fire either at the scene or providing other coverage for the City. The Red Cross was also at the scene providing food and drink to firefighters battling the blaze. Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue photos.
