EAB Just Outside FDL City Limits

Fond du Lac officials learned last week that the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has been found immediately south of the City limits on Hwy 175. That’s near the Fox Ridge Business Park and the infestation has been there for a few years. It increases the possibility that the EAB may already be within the City limits. Fond du Lac Public Works Director Jordan Skiff says it’s fortunate City Manager Joe Moore asked for and got the City Council to approve $110,000 in next year’s budget for Emerald Ash Borer prevention efforts. With over 6,000 ash trees in public parks and street terraces, the City has begun implementing a plan to chemically treat some trees, and to remove many others.  Skiff says if they plan to remove trees from someone’s terrace they will be notified first and given the option to have the tree treated. The insect is 100% fatal to untreated ash trees.  For more information, residents can access the State’s EAB web site or contact the Public Works Department at 920-322-3472.
