Eleven Fatal Traffic Accidents In FDL County In 2017

Fond du Lac County finished 2017 with 11 traffic deaths compared to 10 in 2016. According to Department of Transportation statistics the five year average for the County from 2012 to 2016 is 13 traffic deaths, but that is due in part to 22 deaths in 2012.  Sheriff’s Captain Ryan Waldschmidt says grants for extra enforcement are in part attributable to keeping the number of traffic deaths down. That includes grant money for extra patrols on Highway 23 east of Fond du Lac and County wide for seat belt enforcement. Waldschmidt says they would like to see zero traffic deaths every year. But he feels 11 last year was not terrible though there is room for improvement as they try and keep that number as low as possible. Former Mayville Fire Chief Lynn Cundy was the last person killed in a traffic accident in Fond du Lac County last year. That happened at Highway 151 and Town Road in the Town of Oakfield in early December.
