Emergency Management Tips to Avoid Scammers After Storms

Fond du Lac County
Emergency Management is warning residents that have sustained damage from last
week’s storms to be careful when dealing with contractors and other people
offering their services to help. According to the Consumer Financial Protection
Bureau, some warning signs include contractors demanding full payment up front
or only allowing you to pay in cash – along with being forced to sign something
without enough time to review it or using a lender recommended by the
contractor.

To avoid scams, it’s also advised to carefully question any
strangers who show up at your home with unsolicited offers to make repairs –
and it’s recommended to make sure any contractors offering services are licensed
and legitimate before you sign anything.
