Fatal Accident In Washington County

Washington County Sheriff’s officials say a 28-year-old Hartford man was killed Tuesday afternoon when he ran into the back of a school bus that was stopped to let children off. It happened on State Highway 83 in the Town of Addison at 3:49 p.m. The bus was stopped with the stop arm extended and its flashing lights were activated. The Hartford man failed to stop and struck the bus from behind. He died at the scene. The bus driver wasn’t injured. Three children were on the bus, two of them weren’t hurt. A 9-year-old boy who attends Rossman Elementary School suffered a shoulder injury. He was taken to Hartford Hospital. Witness statements suggest that inattentive driving and excessive speed may have been factors in the accident. The bus was being operated by Wittenberger Bus Service serving the Hartford School District.
