Fatal Snowmobile Accident In Dodge County

A 24-year-old Lake Mills woman was killed and a 26-year-old Sun Prairie man injured when their snowmobiles hit open water on the Crawfish River in Dodge County’s Town of Elba Sunday afternoon. Sheriff’s officials say six snowmobiles were traveling south on the frozen river along County Highway BB when Katie Braasch hit open water and her sled began a clockwise slide. It struck trees near the east side of the river and came to an abrupt stop. A MedFlight doctor pronounced her dead at the scene. The Sun Prairie man saw the crash and open water and jumped off his machine, which also crashed into the tree line. He was flown to the UW Hospital in Madison with non-life threatening injuries.
