Fatal Snowmobile Crash in Calumet County One of Five in State This Weekend

A fatal snowmobile crash in Calumet County is one of five fatal
incidents involving snowmobiles this weekend the DNR along with state and local
law enforcement agencies are investigating. In the Calumet County crash, investigators
say a person was driving a snowmobile on Lake Winnebago when it appears the
machine hit a snowbank or a crack in the ice. The driver was thrown off the
snowmobile which landed on top of them. Alcohol and speed are possible factors
in the crash. Other fatal incidents involving snowmobiles occurred in Iron, Langlade,
Dunn and Forest counties between Friday and Saturday. Lt. Roy Zellmer of the DNR’s
Bureau of Law Enforcement called the incidents “tragic losses of life.”
