FDL City Council Approves Special Use Permit For Warming Shelter

The Fond du Lac City Council Wednesday night approved a special use permit that will allow the Salvation Army to use their gymnasium this winter as a warming shelter. City Manager Joe Moore told the Council when the Solutions Center announced they were looking for a new warming shelter site it was of great concern to him. He says it was the darkest of dark clouds hanging over him. He says upwards of 20 people need a place out of the cold to sleep at night during the winter. Council President Lee Ann Lorrigan says she too was concerned. She says she’s gotten phone calls about people seen sleeping in City parks. The shelter opens next Tuesday night and will be open nights through March 31st.
