FDL City Council Honors Centenarian And Card Shack Operators

The Fond du Lac City Council last night honored Lester Simon with a proclamation in honor of his 100th birthday at the beginning of the month. City Manager Joe Moore says it’s something they can do, but rarely do at Council meetings. Council President Sam Meyer says he envies Simon hoping he too will reach 100 someday. Simon worked at G & L for 45 years and reminisced about some of the hotels that used to be in Fond du Lac when he was a kid that are no longer here. The Council also honored Dick and Betty Mauch with a proclamation. For over 30 years they ran the Card Shack, which has a unique and vast supply of greeting cards. The business has operated for nearly 40 years, but is closing on March 15th.
