FDL City Council Meeting About The City Budget

The Fond du Lac City Council tonight will get a more detailed overview of the 2018 City Budget and 5-year Capital Improvements Plan. City Manager Joe Moore gave them a preview last week. The tax levy will increase from $25 million to $26.3 million with a 2.2 percent increase in the tax rate to $9.72 per thousand dollars of equalized value on a property. There will also be some big projects in the Capital Improvement Plan for 2018. The biggest project will be the $3.9 million Public Safety Training Facility. There’s also $2.4 million in the plan to develop a TIF District to support the Hotel Retlaw renovation. Another $2.8 million will be spent on reconstruction of Fond du Lac Avenue from National Avenue to 6th Street. Moore says $225,000 is being set aside to tear down the former Holy Nativity Convent if the owner doesn’t make repairs by next April. The convent was devastated by a fire in June of 2015. Moore also noted they need to replace the elevator at the Fond du Lac Public Library, which will cost $300,000. The proposed budget and Capital Improvements Plan can be viewed on the City website. The Council meets at 6 p.m. at the City-County Government Center.
