FDL City Council Notes

Downtown Exploratory Committee Update

Downtown Exploratory Committee Chairperson Sam Meyer told the Fond du Lac City Council Wednesday night that the Committee this past month began to define issues in more detail. He says in June an official from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation met with them and had some nice things to say about the downtown. That official was impressed with the historic character of the downtown and the number of historical buildings. The official also complimented the City on the availability of parking downtown. Several Council members thanked Meyer and the committee for the work they have done already. The committee hopes to have final recommendations for the Council by the end of the year.

Special Use Permits Approved

The Fond du Lac City Council approved two special use permits Wednesday evening for improvements by Marian University and the UW-Fond du Lac. Improvements to Herr-Baker Field will allow Marian to partner with the owners of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to bring a Northwoods League to town. A city resident brought up a parking issue, but Community Development Director Dyann Benson said plans for the project meet parking guidelines. The Council also approved a special use permit that will allow a 121-bed student housing facility to be built on the UW-Fond du Lac campus. Both resolutions passed unanimously.
