FDL City Council Vacancy Will Be Filled By Appointment

As it did with the appointments of Karyn Merkel and Brian Foster to the Council last summer the Fond du Lac City Council will take applications, interview and appoint a new Council member to fill a vacancy. Before the Council last night debated which process to use to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Council member Dan Manning (pictured), former Council member Mick Burroughs urged the Council to consider him. Burroughs came in fifth in the recent election with more than 1,300 votes missing one of the four open seats. Councilman Gary Miller also felt the Council should consider appointing Burroughs and wanted to hear from other Council members why he shouldn’t be considered. Council President Sam Meyer favored the appointment method, which he felt worked well with Merkel and Foster’s appointments. The Council voted 4 to 2 to use the appointment method. Applications for the vacancy will be taken through Friday, May 2nd. The top candidates as determined by the Council will be interviewed on Monday, May 12th with the Council making an appointment at their Wednesday, May 14th meeting and the new Council member seated during the Council’s May 28th meeting.
