FDL City Council Vacancy

With Rob Vande Zande’s resignation from the City Council last week the Council will consider whether to fill that vacancy when they next meet. Vande Zande resigned to care for his wife who has been seriously ill since last December. City Manager Joe Moore says it’s the Council’s decision whether they want to fill the vacancy for what remains of his term. That term runs until next April. Fourteen people applied for a Council seat created by the resignation of Councilman Jim Sabel earlier this year, which led to the appointment of Karyn Merkel. Moore says he hopes they get as much interest if the Council decides to fill the vacancy created by Vande Zande’s resignation. Moore says he’s grateful to Vande Zande for filling whatever role they asked him when Sabel had to resign because of a health concern. In a seven month span Vande Zande went from City Councilman to Council Vice President to Acting President to President and then back to Councilman. The Council’s next meeting is on Wednesday, August 14th.
