FDL City Council Will Extend Recreational Fire Hours

The Fond du Lac City Council last night gave City staff the go ahead to make a change to the hours for fire pit burning. Staff will prepare an amendment to the City ordinance that would allow recreational fires until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and the night before a federal holiday. Council President Sam Meyer said it was a property rights issue and people should have the freedom and liberty to do what they want on their own property. He noted there were no time limits in Oshkosh and West Bend. The Council voted unanimously to have City staff draft the change to the ordinance and it will come back before the Council for approval. Also last evening the Council was informed of a couple of financing issues that will come back before them at their September 11th meeting. Early repayment of 2005 Wastewater Utility revenue bonds will save the City $17,500 in interest. Refinancing of 2002 and 2003 Wastewater Utility revenue bonds will save the City $521,000 in interest payments over the remaining 10 year term of the bond issues. That too will come back before the Council at their September 11th meeting.
