FDL City Manager Looks Ahead to 2020; Mall Area Development, Police & Fire Staffing Top Things to Address

As 2019 draws to an end, Fond du Lac City Manager Joe
Moore took time recently to reflect with us on the year that was for the city.

Moore tells us that 2019 was indeed a good year for the
city – with record low unemployment numbers, a continued increase in property
values and a number of new additions in the form of new businesses opening
downtown, a splash pad at Lakeside Park, to name a few.

Looking ahead to 2020 – Moore identifies a few big
storylines facing the city as we start a new year. “The biggest thing on my
list – and its number one with a bullet – would be the (Forest) Mall,” Moore
said. “I think that we’re on the brink of getting a deal done between the owner
of the property, Meijer and the City – we’re not there yet, but we’re super,
super close and I’m pretty optimistic about it.”

Meijer has been in talks with the mall owners and the
city to open a location in Fond du Lac on a portion of the property.

In addition to the mall, the City Manager says looking at
how to add additional staff positions for the city Police and Fire Departments,
along with the Lakeside Park Pavilion project as some of the other major topics
that will be discussed in 2020.
