FDL County Drug Drop Box Awareness Campaign Begins Today

Fond du Lac County Residents are being reminded of how to properly
dispose of old, expired or no longer needed prescription drugs during the fall
Drug Drop Awareness Campaign. The campaign begins today and runs through
October 26th. Fond du Lac County opened the first drug drop box in
the state of Wisconsin in 2008 at the Fond du Lac Police Department. Since
then, the number of drug drop boxes in the county has grown to 13 – with a
total of more than 24.5 million pills collected since 2008. Officials say turning
in unused or expired prescription drugs prevents overuse or abuse and helps the
fight against opioid addiction.

The Fond du Lac Police Department, Drug Free Communities of
Fond du Lac County and the City of Fond du Lac Senior Center are partnering to
sponsor a fall drug take back event this Friday (October 18th). The
event will be held from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm at the Senior Center on east 1st
Street. Residents can bring expired or no-longer needed medications to the Senior
Center on Friday for disposal.
