FDL County Emergency Management Investigating Why Warning Sirens Didn’t Sound during Wednesday’s Storms

Fond du Lac County Emergency Management is looking into why the outdoor warning sirens did not activate during Wednesday night’s tornado warning for a portion of the county.

In a press release, emergency management officials say when the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Fond du Lac County Wednesday night, those outdoor warning sirens failed to activate in the warned area.

The release says that Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken “is aware of the failure of the sirens to activate and is actively working with the vendor to resolve the issue.”

The National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan issued a Tornado Warning for the northwestern portion of Fond du Lac County just after 11:30 Wednesday night. The warning was cancelled just after midnight, but many communities, including the City of Ripon, saw damage from straight-line wind gusts caused by the storm.
