FDL County Sheriff’s Department Adds To Toolbox

Thanks to a substantially large anonymous donor, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department has been able to add a couple of key components to its tool box.

Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt announced Thursday evening that his department was granted their request of a rifle-rated ballistic shield as well as funding to partially support adding a 3rd canine to the K-9 team.

The ballistic shield has already been placed into service and is available for immediate deployment to any high-risk incident in the county, 24/7.

A new canine handler will be selected through a competitive process and attend a 5-week training course with the new canine.

A total of 53 departments made requests totaling just over $1.5 million, and the private citizen donor supplied a check for the total amount.
