FDL Duplex Fire Displaces Seven

Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue responded to a late Saturday evening duplex fire in Fond du Lac. Crews were called out at 11:16pm Saturday evening (June 5, 20201) to 331 W. Division Street for the report of fire on the upper level porch leading to the entrance of the upper unit of a 2-family residential duplex.

A neighbor placed the original 911 call, and crews arrived to find a fire smoldering on the open porch and in the area of an exterior wall near a doorway.

The residents of both units were escape and the fire was quickly extinguished, but not before it caused damage to the exterior porch, the doorway, and exterior siding material. Firefighters remained on scene for over an hour.

Fire investigators determined the fire originated from improper discarding of smoking materials on the porch area.

There were no reported injuries. Seven occupants who resided in the upper unit are being assisted by the Red Cross. FDL Police Department assisted with scene management and traffic control. Crews will conduct a neighborhood fire safety canvas handing out safety information and offering residential fire inspections.
