FDL Elks Club Charter Permanently Revoked

There was no warning. Fond du Lac Elks Club Board of Directors Chairman Joe Levanthal says they found out at a fall conference in Appleton last weekend that the Club’s charter had been permanently revoked. Last October the Club’s charter was suspended, but that was lifted last March. Levanthal says they asked for an update on their status last Saturday and were surprised by what they heard. He says they were told their officers missed too many meetings. Levanthal says they will take the assets they had in the bank and donate to local charitable efforts. He says that includes giving about $6,000 to veterans efforts, donating to the library for a children’s program, and the teen center at the Boys & Girls Club and more. He says the Elks National Chapter will sell the building and hold money from that and other assets in escrow in case someone wants to take another try at starting a local chapter. He says it will remain in escrow for 5 to 7 years. The Fond du Lac Elks Lodge was the oldest in Wisconsin becoming an official lodge in December of 1886. They moved into the building at the corner of Sheboygan and Portland in 1904.
