FDL Fire And Rescue Celebrates National EMS Week With Open House

Fond du Lac Fire Station #1 hosted an open house in honor
of National EMS Wednesday night. Part of the fun was the young kids who
attended. Firefighter Edgar Ramirez-Tellez quizzed one young man on how often
you should check your smoke detector to make sure it is working. He told the
boy you check them once a month, but change the batteries every six
months.
Fond du Lac City Councilwoman Karyn Merkel says she works
for a big company and seeing Fond du Lac paramedics show up for a health
emergency isn’t unusual. She appreciates the work they do.
Chief Peter O’Leary even got kids at the gathering to pass
along an important message to their parents. He said he needed their help to
make sure their parents always wear their seat belts.
The open house also included
demonstrations including a side-by-side home sprinkler system demonstration and
extrication from a simulated motor vehicle accident using a minivan that had
been in an actual accident.
