FDL Fire & Rescue Puts Out Fire in Vacant Home; “Person of Interest” in Custody

A fire in a vacant home in Fond du Lac was quickly put out
by firefighters Monday afternoon, and a “person of interest” as to who possibly
started the fire is now in custody.

Fire and Rescue crews were called to the home in the 500
block of Allen Street around 2:20 pm for a report of a house on fire. A news
release says firefighters arriving on scene found visible smoke coming from the
tri-level structure. The fire was quickly put out and was contained to the area
of origin.

The release says the home was vacant – and gas and electric
to the structure had been turned off. Witnesses reported a man leaving the home
after the fire began. Fond du Lac Police were able to apprehend the man a block
away from the scene.

No injuries were reported in the fire. Fond du Lac Fire
Chief Peter O’Leary says thanks to witnesses who called 9-1-1, the fire did not
extend into the structure, and the person believed to have started the fire is
in custody.
