FDL FIre & Rescue Stressing Importance of Fire Safety Following Fatal Fire

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue is continuing to spread the
word about fire safety after a fatal fire last week in the city. Firefighters
spent Friday canvassing the neighborhood on south Military Road where three
people died in a fire in a group home Thursday morning. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary
says the hope is people will realize the importance of being prepared in case
of a fire. “Having working smoke alarms makes a huge difference,” O’Leary said.
“And you’ve got to practice – you can not think that in a panic that you’re
going to know what to do if you don’t have a plan or you don’t practice your
fire escape plan – you have to do it.” O’Leary says part of the escape plan
should include knowing two ways out of the home, in case the main way in or out
is blocked by fire. Fond du Lac residents who want to schedule a free home fire
inspection can call the Fire Department at 920-322-3800 during regular business
hours.
