FDL Firefighters Present Check To The Red Cross

The Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue’s annual “Labor of Love”
for the Red Cross generated nearly $6,000 this year. Each year the fire
department holds a brat fry to benefit the Red Cross. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary
says it is a “Labor of Love” for his department, but there are a lot of people
behind the scenes that make it work. Some of those supporters gathered at the
fire station on South Main Street this morning for a check presentation to the
Red Cross. Chief O’Leary says many times people stricken by fire have nothing
and the Red Cross fills in missing pieces like shelter and clothing.
Firefighters Local 400 Vice President Jason Roberts says each year the brat fry
seems to grow, but they couldn’t do it without their sponsors. Those sponsors
contribute food ,money and materials that make the brat fry possible. Steve
Hansen of the Red Cross says partnerships are important to the organization. He
says 91 cents of every dollar donated to the Red Cross goes into programs and
services. He says last year the Red Cross provided services at 20 different
disasters in Fond du Lac. This year’s check was for $5,994.05.
