FDL Health Dept Will Do Mass Flu Immunizations In Schools

Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says federal health officials will allow them to immunize all children in the schools this fall for the flu including those already covered by insurance. A change in federal policy last fall prohibited health departments from immunizing children and adults with state supplied vaccine if they were covered by health insurance. Mueller says the state has approved a change that will allow them to go into the schools and vaccinate children next fall. She says they will visit 55 schools over a month’s time to perform the vaccinations. The vaccinations will be done at no charge. She says children who are out sick the day they visit that school or don’t have a permission slip signed won’t be able to go to the health department instead to get the vaccine.
