FDL Humane Society Shelter Closed

Fond du Lac Humane Society Shelter Manager Renee Webb says they will be closed for a few days as they deal with containing the highly contagious canine parvovirus. A very sick puppy brought into the shelter was diagnosed with parvovirus. She says the disease doesn’t affect humans or cats, but can be life-threatening for dogs. She says they are testing the dogs they have in the shelter, but they also are closed to make sure there is no threat to the community. She says unfortunately they’ve seen an increase in parasitic diseases of late. Webb says it’s kind of a perfect storm of conditions that could include the weather and people who opt not to get the proper vaccinations for their pets. She says they will still take in strays, but people should call first or come to their back door. After hours residents should contact police about strays.
