FDL Man Arrested After “Slow Speed” Pursuit Ends at His Home

A 61-year-old man from Fond du Lac was arrested early
Wednesday morning after what police say was a “slow speed pursuit” that started
in the area of Lakeside Park and ended at his home. According to a news
release, Fond du Lac Police were called around 2:30 AM Wednesday for a third
hand report that the man had sent messages indicating he was suicidal and was
armed.

As police tried to find the man, they determined he was
in the area of Lakeside Park. Attempts to make contact with the man by phone
were unsuccessful, and as officers continued to search – he was spotted
near  Lakeside Park Harbor getting into a
vehicle.

Officers attempted to set up a high-risk traffic stop,
but the man drove his truck over two different curbs to maneuver around the
officers’ vehicles. The man continued at a slow speed toward his home a few
blocks away. Once at the home, the man tried to enter the building, but was physically
detained by officers. The news release says the man fought with the arresting
officers and continued to act violently, even after being placed in a squad
car. In their search of the vehicle, police located a handgun.

The man was arrested for “several criminal acts”,
including bail jumping, being a felon in possession of a firearm and resisting
arrest. He is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail pending formal charges.
