FDL Man Arrested Following Sheriff’s Pursuit

An early Sunday morning pursuit in Fond du Lac County resulted in an 18-year old man being taken into custody.

On Sunday July 11, 2021 at approximately 12:40 a.m. the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a speed violation on Winnebago Dr. at Prairie Rd. in the Town of Fond du Lac.

Despite the attempted traffic stop, he suspect vehicle failed to yield to emergency lights and siren and increased its speed and continued east towards Hwy 151. Fond du Lac County Deputies were able to successfully deploy tire deflation devices before the suspect vehicle began to travel south on Hwy 151.

The suspect vehicle continued to attempt to elude, in excess of the speed limit, exiting Hwy 151 and headed eastbound on Rienzi Rd. The suspect vehicle attempted to turn south onto CTH K but was successfully detained by a Sheriff’s Deputy. The suspect then exited his vehicle and began to run on foot but gave himself up following a short pursuit and was taken into custody.

The pursuit covered a distance of approximately 6.5 miles. The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted on the scene at the conclusion of the pursuit.

The driver received citations for speeding, operating without a license, fleeing/eluding a law enforcement officer, and is facing criminal charges of obstructing a law enforcement officer and recklessly endangering safety. He was the only occupant of the suspect vehicle.

As a result of the pursuit two Sheriff’s Office cruisers were damaged as was the suspect vehicle. No injuries resulted from the pursuit and apprehension of the suspect.
