FDL Man On Trial For Child Abuse

A Fond du Lac County jury found a 36-year-old Fond du Lac man guilty of severely injuring a 1-year-old boy in a North Fond du Lac home in August of 2014. The jury returned its verdict Wednesday afternoon against Jason Schifelbine of Fond du Lac on a charge of child abuse-intentionally causing great bodily harm. The boy ended up at Children’s Hospital where he was treated for brain and life-threatening injuries. The victim is still dealing with the consequences of those injuries today. Schifelbine was at his girlfriend’s home and was alone with the boy when the injury occurred. According to the criminal complaint he told officers the boy fell off a counter while he was putting the child’s shoes on. Doctors were certain the injury didn’t occur from a fall. The boy suffered a brain injury, but doctors say he had older bruising on his body as well.
