FDL Man Rescued From Lake Winnebago

A 42-year-old Fond du Lac man was treated for exposure at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac early Sunday morning after Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials rescued him from Lake Winnebago. Christopher Freund called the Sheriff’s Dispatch Center after he got lost on the Lake. He told them he was in the area of Garden Drive. Sheriff’s deputies and Fond du Lac firefighters found him about a quarter mile off shore. Alcohol appears to have been a factor in his disorientation. He was carried off the Lake and transported by ambulance to the hospital. The air temperature at the time was 12 degrees with wind speeds between 10 to 15 miles an hour. Freund was wearing a winter jacket, but was not dressed for extended exposure to the cold. Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department and 1st responders also assisted at the scene. The rescue call was made at 2:24 a.m.
