Approximately two years ago the City of Fond du Lac Police Department began working with the staff of the Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac to coordinate events and programs that would provide monthly interaction between members of the Police Department and the children that attend the B&GC. Those events have included opportunities for Department members to help the children with homework, play games such as basketball or dodgeball, do arts/crafts, team up for a spelling bee, or sometimes just talk and act as a mentor or positive role model.

Additionally, through the very generous financial support of the Cops for Kids Foundation, we have also had the opportunity to put together two field trips where members of the Police Department have accompanied the children. In 2014 we attended a Milwaukee Bucks basketball game where the children were also provided the opportunity to sit court side for a period of time. Most recently, on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, several members of the Police Department had the privilege of participating in a field trip to Xtreme Air trampoline park in Appleton, WI. There, Department members participated with the kids in playing dodgeball and basketball on trampolines, gladiator jousting, climbing a three story rock wall, and a lot more.

The City of Fond du Lac Police Department is very thankful for this relationship that has been built with the Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac and we look forward to watching as it continues to grow.

“Although our responsibilities are many, there are very few that are as critically important as building strong, trusting relationships with the children of our community. Of course, that is foremost in our mission and we work to accomplish that through our Department’s everyday work in our neighborhoods and schools. However, this partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac obviously provides very special opportunities for our police officers and other members of the Department to engage and interact with the kids in a very positive, healthy environment, where their time spent together can be focused on getting to know one another and building those trusting relationships that we hope will last a lifetime. I want to take this opportunity to commend the Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac and the members of the City of Fond du Lac Police Department who have all worked together to build a relationship that will benefit the children, and our community as a whole, in far greater ways than we’ll ever know.”
