FDL Police Have Concerns About Liquor License Applicant

While Fond du Lac’s Alcohol Licensing Committee will take more time to consider a West Bend man’s liquor license application the police department is sticking by its recommendation to deny the request. Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein says last Thursday an argument outside of a tavern Edward Daniel owns in West Bend turned into a SWAT call when someone pulled a gun. The person was arrested a couple hours later. Klein says an ALC member asked if the scope of Daniel’s operation in Fond du Lac changed from a night club to a restaurant would the police department change its opinion. He says it wouldn’t. He says Daniel didn’t include four drunken driving convictions on his application and has run into problems with West Bend Police for over serving patrons and allowing bartenders to drink on duty, the later of which he worked to correct. Klein says they are concerned that the large site Daniel wants to operate at in Fond du Lac wouldn’t be something he could successfully manage given his track record with West Bend Police.
