FDL Police Hold Sendoff Ceremony For One Of Their Own

Fond du Lac Police Officer James Darnell fought back emotions Wednesday afternoon as he prepared for deployment to Afghanistan. The Police Department held a sendoff ceremony for the Wisconsin National Guard Sergeant. Darnell said he had agreed to participate in the ceremony, but was overwhelmed by the large gathering for the ceremony and the messages of support he’s received in the last few days. He said standing here today being able to see the Fond du Lac community to come and support a single person was amazing. Darnell thanked  those who have been supporting him and the men and women of the police department. Police Lieutenant Ed Wenzel, who has been deployed four times over the years, presented Darnell with an American Flag. While the ceremony was going on a large group of Trump protesters were gathered just north of the police station holding up signs for the rush hour traffic at Johnson and Main.
