FDL Ranked in Top 10 of Recent “Drunkest Cities” Report

A recent report ranks Fond du Lac in the top ten of the “Drunkest
Cities” in the United States. The report published by 24/7 Wall Street last
week ranks Fond du Lac at number seven in their rankings. The report also finds
that seven of the top ten cities with the highest rates of adult binge drinking
in the U.S. are in Wisconsin – with 12 of the top 20 cities in the rankings
belonging to the Badger State.

In Fond du Lac, groups like Drug Free Communities are
working with different partners around the area to address binge drinking with
both kids and adults. “We have really, really good partners in law enforcement,”
Ellen Sorensen with Drug Free Communities tells us. “So we do compliance checks
to make sure that those businesses that sell alcohol are not selling to minors –
and Fond du Lac has done a very good job the last several years, they’ve had a
90-percent compliance rate.”

Sorenson explains that Drug Free Communities is also
working with area festivals to make sure they’re using best practices when both
selling and advertising alcohol around kids.

In the “Drunkest Cities” rankings – Appleton was number
one, followed by Oshkosh, Green Bay, Madison and Fargo, North Dakota. In
addition to Fond du Lac, La Crosse and Eau Claire both made the top ten.
