FDL Red Cross Office Closing

The Red Cross office on North Main Street in Fond du Lac is up for sale and is closing and it’s not the only one. Steve Hansen is the Executive Director for the Northeast Wisconsin Red Cross Chapter. He says the Red Cross will be decreasing its footprint by closing 9 of its 19 facilities in the state by 2017. He says that makes sure more money donated to the Red Cross goes towards services they provide instead of overhead costs for buildings. He says over 90 percent of their people are volunteers who will continue to provide things like disaster services, teaching first aid and CPR courses, and helping military families. He says they don’t need buildings for that. He says 95 percent of their services happen outside their offices. He says they are selling their office in Fond du Lac, sold the one they have in Sheboygan and will close two more in the region. The Waupaca and Appleton offices will be closing and that will leave them with offices in Green Bay and Oshkosh.
