FDL School Board Gets Budget Overview

The Fond du Lac School Board this week got an overview of the District’s 2017-18 Budget. Director of Business Services Mike Gerlach presented that report. District Superintendent Jim Sebert says with the state budget still up in the air the district isn’t sure how much aid it will receive, but if Governor Walker’s proposal for an extra $200 per students stands it will help them balance their budget. He says the school board won’t approve the district budget until their second meeting in October. He says unlike state, municipal and county government a school district’s budget year runs from July 1st to June 30th of the following year. He says school districts start a school year before they actually have a budget. He says the way they budget is not how people operate at home. Sebert says they have been in a good position over the years where they haven’t had to make any major cuts due to a deficit.
