FDL Schools Await Safety Grant

The Fond du Lac School District has yet to learn how much money they will receive in a grant from the newly formed Office of School Safety. The state is giving out $100 million to schools to improve safety systems and protocols.

Superintendent Jim Sebert says there are a number of changes they plan to make across the district, especially when it comes to visitors. He tells us “it would allow us, using a drivers license, to run an automatic background check. And then also print off a badge with their picture and name on it that they wear when they’re in the school. I think it would really enhance what we’re able to do. The other thing is upgrading our entry systems so all of our school buildings are locked.”

Sebert adds that “several districts are being announced periodically, they come in clumps.
We haven’t been announced yet, but it could be any day now that we hear that we
receive ours.”

Fond du Lac schools are requesting $296,500 dollars through the grant program. Sebert expects to hear soon on how much the district will actually receive.
