FDL Senior Center Celebrates 50 Years Of Service

The Fond du Lac Senior Center, a community focal point and meeting place for individuals 50 years and older, celebrated 50 years of service on Wednesday, February 1, and invited the public for a cake celebration.

Over 125 people attended the Center’s 50th birthday celebration that took place between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
“Without our community partners, local organizations, businesses and donors, we wouldn’t have been able to grow as much as we have, so we very grateful,” Senior Center Director Cathy Loomans said. “50 years is a wonderful milestone to achieve and everyone should be proud of being a part of that success, including those we serve, our volunteers and the community as a whole.”
In 2016, there were nearly 70,000 visits to the Center for programs, activities and events, which includes arts & crafts, card games, community groups, dining, classes, exercise and health classes, fundraisers (Dine Out Coupon Books, Bake Sales, Membership Drive and Heart Tree), music & dance, outreach, recreation, support groups and special programs (Ho Ho Hotline, Aging Mastery Program and SALT/TRIAD meetings). Currently, there are over 300 volunteers who help out with activities, including staffing the Gift Shop, Happy Travelers, outreach program, front desk, mailing the monthly newsletters and more. The Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, with additional activities during the weekends and evenings.
