FDL Swat Team Called To South Main Street

Update:

Fond du Lac Police dealt with two despondent men in separate incidents in the City Friday. The second incident involved a man in the 600 block of S. Main Street who it was believed had access to weapons. Police blocked off an area of South Main as they dealt with the situation. Police Chief Bill Lamb told us at the scene it was an inconvenience for some residents and they are grateful for the cooperation. Assistant Chief Steve Klein says the situation started out about noon when a despondent man staying with family made some threats. He claimed to have access to weapons and if police came in he would shoot at officers. Shortly after 2 p.m. the man was taken into custody without incident. Klein says no weapons were found. In the earlier incident a 19-year-old Fond du Lac man who was also despondent made some threats at a nail salon in the strip mall next to Festival Foods. A woman working at the salon called police. The man had a handgun, but did not use it. Chief Lamb says his officers responded appropriately to what could have been a very dangerous situation.

The Fond du Lac SWAT team was called to an incident in the 600 block of South Main Street in Fond du Lac.  Police officials were called out to the scene about noon today for a man that may be suicidal.  Much of South Main Street is blocked off as police are negotiating with the man.  Residents in the area are asked to “Shelter in Place”
