FDL Youth Gives Donations From Birthday To Salvation Army

Ben Reinke, age 10, is pictured presenting a basket full of supplies and a check to Salvation Army Warming Shelter Manager Amber Bose. The donations came from guests at Ben’s 10th birthday party. Ben explained he wanted to help people that are in need. Earlier in December he and his Mom dropped off a donation after hearing The Salvation Army needed things.  “That’s when I thought of doing a collection for my birthday.” Ben asked his guests not to bring gifts for him but instead to help The Salvation Army. “It makes me happy and  feels nice sometimes to give things rather than get things.” Ben suggested that any other kids who want to do something like this for their birthday should include the list of things The Salvation Army needs in the invitation.  “I didn’t miss getting presents – I just wanted to have fun at the party.  I was happy my friends helped out.”  Ben’s giving spirit and all he and his friends did,  inspire The Salvation Army staff who welcome visitors and schedule tours for individuals, groups and families.
